Stepping Into Spring - Five Ways to Welcome Warm Weather in Edmonton

The snows melted and the grass is growing greener-after what felt like an unending winter it seems as if spring has finally crept its way into Edmonton.

There's seldom a person in our fair city that isn't itching to embrace the beginning of summer, but after such a long season of hunkering down and avoiding the cold it can be difficult to decide where to start. And while the weather may be kind to us now, there's always those who wait with baited breath for our traditional bout of May 1st snow.

1) On now Through June 30 - Take in the views at the Spring it On! Art Show at Picture This Gallery in Sherwood Park

Perfect for a brisk day or those simply seeking a drive, this exhibit is sure to get you excited about the change in seasons. Featuring artwork by Holly Carr, Julia Lucich, Dennis Magnusson and more, this free event showcases all the beautiful colours of spring and is a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy the weather!

2) Shop the block or Hit up the Patio At All The Best Local Hot Spots

Edmonton hosts some world class shopping and entertainment districts, be it Whyte Avenue, 124th Street, Jasper Avenue, or 104 Street. While each district has its own staples, it can be surprising to see how much one season can change your favourite local hot spot. May traditionally marks the beginning of shopping and patio season, and if you're looking to get out and about in the sunshine there's no better way to do it than by making your way through Edmonton's best local shops and pubs!

3) May 4th - Have a bi at Taste of Stony Plain Road Hosted by The Orange Pub

There's no better way to kick off the spring season than with a full stomach - and if you're craving a taste of Edmonton's West End you'll love the abundance of samples of local cuisine and breweries. Perfect for a night out for two or the whole gang, this event includes exclusive access to door prizes, coupons, discounts and a free wine glass as a souvenir.

4) May 19th at the Art of Cake - Watch History at the Edmonton Royal Wedding Viewing Party

Calling all Royal Wedding Fanatics! If you're seeking company for this once in a lifetime spring event, there's no better place to watch Megan Markle say "i do" than at The Art of Cake. This formal event also features a silent auction to benefit the Stollery Children's Hospital. Formal dress, including top hats and fascinators, is required - -as well as a donation to the Edmonton Food Bank!

5) See What's in Bloom at The Muttart Conservatory

There's always something beautiful growing at the Mutant Conservatory. Although you can come any day of the week to enjoy fragrant blossoms and sweet spring blooms the month of May is full of events for anyone seeking to get a jump start on summer. Get excited to garden at the Annual Bedding Plant Sale from May 17th - May 19th, or gear up for a romantic evening with Adults Only Wednesdays!
